Sitting in the Barcelona airport waiting to board my flight (I still have about another hour, but it's 11am here). Thinking about my trip and a little sad saying bye to my friends yesterday. I can't get Angus' racist jokes out of my head, they're living there rent free, and I can't help but feel like I should've said something then. Only now did the "appropriate" response come to me ("Ewww, brother", something we were saying a lot that trip). But even without an appropriate response I felt obligated to say something. It's too late now, perhaps I can learn better for next time. The other thing I noticed is that curiosity is infectious. I noticed this primarily in Angus over the course of the trip, even just the 5 days we were there, as he sought to learn more about the history of buildings around us, and how spanish people live. It's always nice to see that, I've seen that change in Parul too.
I guess a sort of recap is in order, I'll try to go chronologically.
- Arrive in Venice, having rested enough on the plane. Go to Treviso ($80 Euro taxi, my first experience of italian driving 😅). Meet up with Jxn, Jeremy and Greta's cousin Alejandro(?). Grab some beers from a local pub, and meet the rest of the crew, including Jxn's dad, Clare, and more of Greta's family. We went back to Gret's house eventually, where Haikal joined us. Met Greta's brother, Davide, who's a super chill dude
- Don't exactly remember the next day, but probably something fairly similar??
- I think this was the day of the Wedding. It was a nice wedding about an hour out of Treviso on the top a of a big hill.
- I had to give up being a vegan in Italy, all the veg food had some sort of cheese, and it certainly wasn't nutritious :(
- We walked around Treviso a bunch, and got really yummy gelato (Pistachio and Hazelnut Lupino -- Without milk~)
- We want to a few different towns that were fairly close by, though I can't remember the names.
We want to mount Grappa, which was really pretty, there was a war memorial we visited but I didn't care for it very much
- Up until the war memorial (where I had to restart my phone due to camera issues), I was recording my location all the time. I should be able to rebuild this list.
Then we (me and Haikal) went to Mallorca, and Mikey and Angus picked us up from the airport
- We went directly to a small cragg
- The next day we went Deep Water Soloing, and I borke my ass doing a cliff jump (lol)
- We did more sport climbing
- I didn't get to eat any vegan food for the most part :(
