Fascinated by a recent idea I've seen floating around the internet that I really like. I think it's related to ideas for breaking up Google's Search monopoly: Make the index public! A re-imagining of Google as a protocol instead of product.
People self-index content that they're interested in, using something approaching PageRank (or however they like). There is a standard format to share these indexes. Since indexes come from people, we can rank their expertise when contextually searching for content from their index.
OpenSearch (protocol) has some interesting ideas about sharing search results, which is close to sharing an index, but perhaps the wrong abstraction for building a nice UX with this experience.
