data analysis and experimental thinking
some boring statistics stuff:
- uni/bi/multi variate data
- types of data: nominal, numerical, etc
- populations vs samples
- parameter vs statistic
- summary statistics: mean, mode, etc
- using tables, plots to explain data, and how it can be misleading
important questions when understanding the distribution of numerical data:
- what is the range of the data
- what is the central tendency
- how spread out are the values
central tendency = most common: mean, median, mode variability = a single value to measure internal variation of data; range, variation, standard deviation other stats = five number summary
now we talk about different graphs
- histogram
- density plot
- box plot
bivariate data
- contingency tables = tables with 2 variables
- t-test
