in the order to use the microphone on your Bluetooth had founds you have to connect in the hands free profile. depending on how you've configured audio this might no work for you. my configuration involves pipewire, along with integrations for also pulse and jack. i'm using blueZ to connect over Bluetooth.
in order to select the audio profile I used blue man. once connected right click the connected device, and choose the HFP profile. pipewire natively supports this.
