I've been thinking more about what I want this space to be. Why I write for a public audience. I mean sure, I started because I like working in public, but as I've come to understand the difference between private and public notes, and having a voice online, I've come to want more.
It may come as little surprise to those who know me, but I have some fairly out there Beliefs. I argue myself into a corner, and only action resolves the tension created by my belief structure. It validates my life. Otherwise I'd be a raging hypocrite, and nobody would like that.
Living my life on my terms, enacting the values I believe in, is the only way I can justify my beliefs. It has a further consequence of convincing other people of my beliefs as well. That I can live by them makes them Pragmatic, real in a certain sense. I've seen, on more than one occasion, the lens through which another human being perceives reality be shifted by my decisions that I recount to them. It's incredibly persuasive, in a way argument is incapable of being.
Despite being effective, such culture shifting mechanics are entirely local. As much as I love meeting people, I will never meet enough to have any significant effect on culture at large. Instead, I would like to turn to Myths, here on this website. To offer perspectives, stories, and lenses through which to perceive.
In order to build a better world, we must share both visions of a better future, and a different communal understanding of our past.
